Famous Twins - Joan and Jayne BOYD
            Original Doublemint Twins

BOYD, JOAN and JAYNE (SCHWARTZ) models. Original Doublemint Twins. In 1959, models 21-year-old Jayne and Joan Boyd of Hammond, Ind., were chosen to bicycle, play tennis and toboggan their way through 12 TV
commercials as Wrigley's high-energy Doublemint twins. As the story went, however, these twins were not athletic. During one shoot they flew over the handlebars of a tandem bike.

Nearly 40 years after they first appeared on TV, twin sisters Jayne and Joan Boyd still are widely known (and occasionally recognized) as the sports- minded, gum-chewing Doublemint Twins.

Their four-year "double your pleasure" gig for Wrigley, a series of TV
commercials that was launched in 1959, transformed the 21-year-old models from Hammond, Indiana into pop-culture icons. To this day, Doublemint ads retain the twins theme, and the Boyds' agent says the original commercials may soon appear again on the TV Land cable network as "retro-mercials."

The twins stopped doing the commercials in 1963, when Joan became pregnant with the first of her three children. "We went right from 'double your pleasure' to changing diapers," recalls Jayne, who like her sister has three grown children.

Today, the Boyd sisters, once constant companions, live in separate parts of the country. But they still get together on holidays and check in by phone several times a week. Joan, now single, is a receptionist in Chicago. Jayne, married to TV producer Al Schwartz for 34 years, lives in Beverly Hills, California.
