Linda Boyd Lawhon's Research Papers Richard G. Boyd:
I need to get the word out that I have delivered Linda's research
materials plus CD's containing software files to The Tennessee State
Archives in Nashville.
The research represent 30-yrs of effort on her part. It was her last wish
that the research be made available to the public by placing it in the
Archives to be microfilmed. Those arrangements were made just prior to
her death in 2003.
The documents and hardcopy materials were organized by two local
genealogists and are stored in 18 bank-boxes. A software index by
surname and by box number is on the CD.
The software files are indexed by surnames that Linda had entered into
her TMG program. Individual surname records from TMG were then stored in
folders on the CD which correspond with the box number containing that
material. For ease of reading, surname files are stored in both
MSWord, and Adobe .pdf
format as well as being in a TMG sqz file which can be imported
into TMG for additional work.
Records and documents, beyond the above, are contained in the boxes and
those will be microfilmed along with the TMG stuff materials. I guess
everyone will have to wait until later this year to find out whether the
extra "stuff" is of interest.
The Director of
Archival Technical Services, Cathi Carmack, said they would probably start
filming in late June or July. She feels the whole task will easily be
completed before year-end 2009.
