                       Family reunited after years
 

In 1898, Robert Boyd, grandfather of Bob Boyd, formerly of Amboy and now of
Palm Springs, Fl, left Greyabbey, Northern Ireland with his wife and baby and came to Chicago where his sister and her family were living.

Shortly after this, his brother David immigrated to South Africa to work in the gold mines and another brother, Loftus, left for New Zealand. For more than 100 years there has been no communication between these families until a cousin, Ray Tyrrell, of London, England, helped Darlene Hinkle find both families last year.

Correspondence through letters, e-mails and exchanging pictures followed.
David and his wife and two sons live in Germiston, South Africa, where he is
a chartered (CPA) accountant for a large glass company.

Last year when he was in Ohio on business, he rang up his cousin Darlene.
This year they were able to set a date to meet. Both times Bob and Jean Boyd
were in Amboy visiting. At the meeting, pictures were shared and the hopes of having the Boyd family visit in South Africa or possibly all meeting in Northern Ireland where their roots are is being excitingly discussed.

Robert is the third Robert Boyd of five in succession and David is also the
third David Boyd of four.
