THE BELFAST NEWSLETTER INDEX, 1737-1800
"The Belfast Newsletter collection contains accurate information on
births, deaths, and marriages in what is now Northern Ireland. It
provides passenger lists and shipping announcements that have recorded
immigration and emigration through the Irish port. It gives accounts and
anecdotes of the town's citizens that give substance to names listed in
church and municipal records. The Belfast Newsletter collection proves
an excellent primary resource for the study of 18th-century Irish
politics, trade, and social life."
Famine Irish Passenger Record Data Now
On line.
The US National Archives has put the Irish Famine Immigrants database
online.... and it's free to search. This Data File covers Irish
immigrants to the port of New York from 1846-1851.
It can be a bit difficult to figure out *how* to search this data....so
the following are step-by-step directions which I hope will be helpful
to you.
Go to:
http://aad.archives.gov/aad/title_list.jsp
On this first page, use the "pull down menu" and choose
"Irish" and
click "Submit".
On
this next page, click on the "Famine Irish Data Files,
1977?-1989?"
blue link.
On
this next page, you will see: "Title" - "Other
Titles" - "Options"
...click on "Search" underneath "Options".
On
this page, scroll down a bit to the search boxes and enter the name of
the person you are looking for in the boxes underneath "Enter
Values" ....then click "Search"
Note: you only need a surname although it may produce, in many cases,
many results...but you can search with a first name and surname to cut
down results. All other boxes are optional. Also be sure to check out
the "Additional Information/Actions" up in the right hand
corner of the page.
A few quick surname searches and the results:
Boyd - returned 450 records of 604,596 total records.
Boyde - returned 41 records of 604,596 total records.
Boyed - returned only 1 record of 604,596 total records.
