Waipu, New Zealand

Between 1853 and 1860, a total of six ships - the Margaret, Highland Lass,
Gertrude, Spray, Breadalbane and the Ellen Lewis brought Scottish emigrants
to Waipu via Nova Scotia. These early settlers were under the leadership of
the charismatic Presbyterian preacher, Norman McLeod. This is one of the
world's greatest migration stories and Waipu continues to celebrate its
Scottish heritage and cultural uniqueness.
