1. All of
the information on this page began with personal notes of Minnie C. Boyd
b. 1880 and has been confirmed largely through the US Census, land
records, wills, and marriage records. Corrections and commentary
are welcome. We are desparately seeking any and all information on
the origins of John Boyd. He was probably from Guilford Co NC and
probably a nephew to John Boyd, early settler of Nashville.
2. Lavinia
Cootes was the daughter of John Cootes and Mary McCuiston.
John and Mary were married July 18, 1769 in Rowan County NC. Mary,
b Sept 17 1749 PA, was the youngest daughter of Robert McCuiston and Ann
Denny. This line leads back to John McCuiston and Isabella Crelon of
Northern Ireland. At least 3 of their sons (Thomas, Robert and James and
probably one daughter Margaret migrated to American in 1735). John
Cootes was probably the brother of James Cootes, both of whom were
relatively early settlers of Nashville TN. They may have also been
related to Austin M and Lavinia Cootes of TN.
3. Charity
Couch was probably a child of Gabriel Couch and Sarah Hughes.
Census records and land records prove that Gabriel Couch and Wellington
Boyd lived near each other in Panola County MS. Along with their
children, spouses and other family members, they eventually joined up
with WW Kirkland, and continued on as a group through Arkansas and into
TX. The family story is that Charity died during the migration to TX and
was buried near Memphis on the bank of the Mississippi River. I have
never found a reference to Charity as one of Gabriel's many children,
however I suggest the following line-up:

4. Sarah
Emeline Kirkland and her older sister Rose Clementine (wife of John
Wellington Boyd) were daughters of Dr. William Wilson Kirkland and Polly
Ann Kellum married Sept 13, 1837 in MS. As mentioned in note 3, Kirkland
joined up with Boyd and Couch during their migration out of MS, through
AR and into the Waco TX area. WW Kirkland was the son of Archibald
Kirkland and Mary Chaney; Polly Ann Kellum was the daughter of Edward
Kellum and Karenhappuck Tabor.
5. Julia
Isabel Neavitt was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Neavitt JR and
Maribett Powell married Aug 14, 1888 in Hamilton Co TX. Neavitt's father
had been a pharmacist in Queen Anne Co MD for a number of years when he
moved to TX and married Julia Fitzgerald, the young daugher of William
Fitzgerald and Rebecca Patton. Maribett Powell was the oldest daughter
of Christopher Columbus Powell and Isabella Sapp of Blount Co, AL.
6. This
particular family line was obtained via the LDS FamilySearch site.
Other than Harrison Boyd's birthdate, the information has not been
independently verified.
