Will of George Boyd, Sr. - Stewart
County
In the name of God, Amen. I George Boyd of the County of Stewart
&
State of Tennessee being in perfect mind and memory, Thanks be given to
God. Bringing to mind the unstability of my body & knowing
that t is
appointed for all men once to die, make and ordain this my last will and
testament.
That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul
unto the hand of Almighty God that gave it & my body I recommend to
the
earth to be buried in a Christian burial at the discretion of my
friends, making for a joyful resurrection. And as ___ing in such
worldly estate as it has pleased God to __ me with I give and dispose of
in the following manner. I give to my wife Polly Boyd one Negro
man
named Robbin & all my household furniture. Also the tract of
the
property that is __ on the premises. Also one horse and colt, also
for
the balance of my stock & perishable property to be sold & the
income
arising there from to __ to the comfortable support of my said wife
during her life. Secondly I give to my son John Boyd the sum of
ten
dollars as he has heretofore had his proportional part. Thirdly I
give
to my son-in-law Joseph McCarty the sum of ten dollars as he has had his
part of my estate that I intended him. Fourthly I give to the
heirs of
my son Joel Boyd ten dollars as my son Joel has had his part.
Fifthly I
give to my daughter Sally Wells ten dollars as her part of my estate.
Sixthly I give to my son George Boyd junr. My Negro man H__. Also
after
the death of my said wife, I wish that my son George may have my Negro
man Robbin and all the interest of the property that may or shall remain
after the death of my said wife. I also desire that my books
remain
together for the benefit of my wife and son George, and at my wife's
death to belong to George. And I hereby appoint my wife Polly Boyd
and
George Boyd executors of this my last will and testament. In
witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-fourth day of
Feby. 1829.

education under control of her grandfather, Edward TATE, if she dies
then goes to her next oldest sister, Isabella Jane BOYD, daughter of
James B. BOYD, if both die, then next oldest child; my brother Francis
BOYD in our partnership of T & H BOYD; my wife Jane BOYD all
property left her by her father; my infant daughter
Hester Isabella BOYD; Francis BOYD Of McMinn County, TN & Samuel
SHIELDS of Grainger County, my sole executors. Signed 20 Sep 1847.
Also there shall be a genteel set of tombstones over my father and

Will
of Michael Boyd- 1848-
Roane County
I
Michael BOYD of the County of Roane and State of Tennessee being in a
declining state of health though of Sound mind and memory calling to
mind the mortality of all human beings, and knowing that it is appointed
for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament.
First I
direct that whatever debts that I may be owing at the time of my death
– together with my funeral expences shall be paid by my Executor out
of such effect as I may be possessed of at the time of my death – and
the remainder to be divided and disposed of in the following maner – (Viz)
To my Daughter Martha W. HEADRICK, (The mother of my three living grand
children hear in after to be mentioned by name) I bequeath one sorrel
mare and one Sorrel Coalt two years old last spring – Saddle and
bridle – ten head of sheep, three feather beds with their furniture
together with one third of the other household furniture, with the like
part of that of the kitchen also – Also to have a decent support
through life on and out of the lands I am possessed of including the one
hundred acre tract granted by a deed of conveyance to my Grand son
Joshua L SMITH on the 10th day of December 1847 – also one cow and
calf – to my Grand daughter Margaret Ann and her husband Edward
FRIELDS and the lawful heirs of the boddy of the said Margaret I

bequeath the tract of land on the Black oak Ridge. Known as the
John Davis Tract – Containing Three hundred and fifty nine and one
fourth acres, more or less – as by reference to the original Grant
will appear Also a field and lot of land lying in the Fork of the East
fork, and big Poplar Creek opposite to Weckers Mills. Begining on
a Beach and Maple in a hollow and on the bank of the East Fork Thence up
the said hollow leaving to the right an other hollow which comes in,
running up the left hollow to the Galbeath old thousand acre line with
it to a Bluff near Big Poplar Creek and down the same to the bank of the
East fork of Poplar Creek, near Weckers Mills. Thence up the meanders of
the creek to the begining. They the said Margaret Ann and Edward FRIELDS
having already heretofore received their proportional part of my
personal estate – To my Grand Daughter Sarah Jane SMITH, and my great
grand son Arthur Crozier SMITH, I bequeath jointly to them and the
lawful heirs of their bodies one hundred and eighty three acres of land
more or less, being in two separate tracts, but adjoining by lines, one
hundred acres of which, being a part of the Joshua Smith tract conveyed
to me by John Smith as by reference to his deed of conveyance will fully
show, the other part or tract (being eighty three acres) is the same on
which I am now living the lines of which are distinctly described in the
original Grant, and which may be seen by a reference thereto –

also to my Grand daughter Sarah Jane Smith one horse beast Saddle and
bridle and ne cow and calf five head of Sheep one feather bead &
furniture, and one Bureaw-In addition to the one hundred acres of land
that I have deeded to my Grand Son Joshua L. SMITH, I bequeath to him
one Waggon and a Yoke of Steers a parcal of bar iron all my farming
utensils, two colts, on Saddle, one Clock and one featherbed with its
furniture, and eight head of hogs – Also the remainder of my household
& kitchen furniture not heretofore given is to be equally divided
between my three grand children – Sarah Jane, Joshua L. SMITH – and
Margaret Ann FRIELDS – And I also further direct whatever property not
bequeathed by this Will to be Sold by publick vendue – and the
proceeds equally divided between my three Grand Grand(crossed thru)
children Sarah Jane, Joshua L. SMITH and Margaret Ann FRIELDS – after
paying my debts and funeral expences as above stated – And I hereby
appoint my friend John SMITH Sole Executor to this my last will and
testament and I hereby revoke all other wills all other wills (second
all other wills crossed thru) I may have heretofore made!
In testimony
of all which I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 14th day of
September A. D. 1848.
