1790 Census
The United States
government has transcribed the 1790 censuses for 11
states. They are available as books for Connecticut, Maine, Maryland,
Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania,
Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Vermont. The books are also available
on microfilm or microfiche. In the front of the book is the census; in
the back of the book is an index by last name, then first name. These
are the original census schedules for 1790. Schedules for some counties
are missing.
No schedules are known to
exist for Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky,
New Jersey, Tennessee, and Virginia. However, census substitutes
for those six states exist (1790 Census substitute index) and
Georgia,
Kentucky, New Jersey and Tennessee are at the end of this listing.
The above is
not a *COMPLETE* list of the 1790 Census Index.
