John Jackson BOYD was
born in New York about 1826. He attended the U.S.
Military Academy, West Point, New York, and was commissioned a
lieutenant of cavalry. He served in the regular army under General John
C. Fremont, and was a member of the Pathfinders expedition to Pike's
Peak. He resigned his commission after a few years and returned to New
York.
In 1860, John Boyd
migrated to Kansas, settling in Doniphan County. He
organized and was the captain of the local militia in Troy, Doniphan
County, Kansas called "Boyd's Company", 4th Regiment Kansas
Volunteers. On August 6, 1861, this unit was mustered into federal
service at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and encamped at Wyandotte, Kansas.
The unit was subsequently re-designated as Company F, 4th Regiment Kansas
Volunteers and Company F, 10th Regiment Kansas Volunteer Infantry,
respectively. During October 6 to November 10, 1861, Captain Boyd
was detached from his unit to recruit for the regiment. In that period
he married Elizabeth CASE, also from Doniphan County,
Kansas. They were married by Reverend J. E. Ryan on October 17, 1861 in
Troy, Doniphan County, Kansas. Captain John Boyd requested and was
granted a resignation of his commission effective August 11, 1862. No
reason was given for the resignation. John Boyd returned to
Doniphan County, Kansas after his
discharge. In 1867 he moved to Atchison, Kansas where his is listed in
the Federal Census of 1870. His occupation for this enumeration is
listed as a book keeper. During late 1870 through the 1888 John
Boyd was the Deputy Clerk of the District Court. In November 1888 he was
elected Clerk of the District Court, Atchison County, Kansas. It was
reported in the "Atchison Daily Globe", on November 8, 1888
that he "was on a sick-bed when he was nominated for district
clerk, and who was sick all through the canvass and is still in bed. He
did not, as far as the Globe knows, put up a dollar for boodle
purposes." He died on February 3, 1889, and is buried in the Mount
Vernon Cemetery, Atchison County, Kansas. John and Elizabeth had six
children, one of whom was George Henry Boyd.
George Henry Boyd
/ Olive May Jackson
George Henry BOYD was the
second of six children born to John J. BOYD and Elizabeth CASE in
Atchison, Kansas. He lived in the Atchison, Kansas area until his
early adult life. In 1888, he married Olive May JOHNSON
and in 1900 he was living in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife and two
sons. His occupation is listed as a traveling salesman. A decade
later, the George Boyd family consisted of four sons and lived on
Hardesty Avenue in Kansas City. George's occupation is a salesman for
commercial hardware. In 1915, the George Boyd family, consisting of his
wife and three sons moved to Minnesota and were living in St Paul. His
employment at that time was a buyer of wholesale hardware. In
1940, he and his wife moved to Missouri and lived with his son,
George Raymond BOYD in Blue Township, a rural area near Independence. He
died on November 1942, five months after his wife.

George Raymond BOYD was
born to George Henry BOYD and Olive May JOHNSON in Highland, Doniphan
County, Kansas. He spent his childhood and early adult life in Atchison,
Kansas. He started working for newspapers when
he was 15, and worked various jobs in St Paul and Omaha. In 1910, he and
his wife, Olive, (mother?) were living in Kansas City, Kansas
with his mother- in-law, Hanna ENGLISH. He worked for the
Kansas City Star in Kansas City, as a clerk and assistant circulation
manager. In 1926, he moved to Independence, Missouri, where he worked as
the circulation manager for the Independence Examiner. He was also the
secretary-treasurer for the Midwest Circulation Managers Association. In
the early 1940's, he moved to Glendale, California and worked for the
Glendale News Press as an advertising manager. He retired in Glendale,
but later moved to Washington, NC, where his son Kenneth lived. After
his wife Olive died, he moved to Blue Springs, Missouri and married a
long time friend. After her death, he moved to Ft Myers, Florida to live
with his brother William M. BOYD.
