Obituary: Rosetta Boyd, L.P.N., Genesee Co; MI

Rosetta, L.P.N. BOYD - Age 90, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 at Hurley Medical Center. She will repose at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie, Sunday, March 17, 2002 after 4PM where the family will receive friends from 6-8PM. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Monday, March 18, 2002, Rev. Charles E. Roots officiating. Burial in River Rest Cemetery. She recently returned from Atlanta by way of California and the family now knows she came back to make her transition. Her nieces were at her side. Mrs. Boyd was born October 6, 1911 in Tallassee, AL, the daughter of Mariah and John Buchanon, the sixth child of ten siblings. Mr. Gilmar Boyd, her husband, preceded her in death in 1955. She was a charter member of Canaan Baptist Church. Her services there included being a choir member for 82 years, a member of the Dorcus Mission Circle for 76 years, Usher Board for 52 years, Nurse's Guild for 35 years, Kitchen Committee for 25 years. After working for many years as an licensed cosmetologist, she returned to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She began her nursing career at McLaren and retired from Hurley in 1975, where she worked as a medicine charge nurse. For 26 years, she was active with the Big Sisters Program. After retiring, Rosetta volunteered in the auxiliary department at Hurley and worked in Judge Gadola's court for 14 years. She had been a neighborhood staple during the time she resided on Pasadena Ave. and operated a home store. Other involvements include membership with Pierce-Hasslebring Center for many years. She enjoyed hunting, rollerskating, ice skating, was an avid bowler, needlepoint, ceramics, fishing and was an excellent cook, known for rolls, cheesecake and German chocolate cake. She was a traveler, traveling to Rome, Jerusalem, the Holy Land, the Caribbean and Hawaii and throughout the United States. She felt there was never a need for a person to be bored. To her nieces and grandnieces the sun of their universe and will be sorely missed. Surviving are: a sister, Abbie (Roscoe) Roberts Sr.; 3 nieces, her namesake, Rosetta (Fredrick) Haywood, Tureia Roberts, all of Flint, Marcia (Charles) Sanford of Decatur, GA; nephew, Terry Roberts of Lansing; 10 great-nieces including dedicated and devoted great-nieces, Mrs. Nicole (Dr. Mario) Pacada of Long Beach, CA, Atty. Gwendolyn (Dr. Mario) Majette of Silver Springs, MD and Cheryl Jefferson of California; 6 great-nephews; other caring relatives, Ellen Gift, Elystine Roberts, Bobbie Wells, Odean Boyd; special friends, Corine Walker, Rose Hopkins, Vickie Poplar, Mitch. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings and a nephew, Roscoe Roberts Jr. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Pastor Charles Roots and the Canaan Church family, Rev. Knolls of Atlanta, GA, Marge and Judy of Rosehaven Retirement Community, Judge Gadola, MTA Your Ride, Doris Jenkins and Cheryl Brown of
