32nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment,  Co D "Lowery Guards"  

BOYD,  Capt. Alfred Andrew was educated at Petersburg, Va., and Summit, Miss., and left his studies at the latter place to enlist in McNair Rifles, under Capt. R. H. McNair, afterward known as Company E of the Third Mississippi Battalion, Maj. A. B. Hardcastle commanding. This famous Battalion was organized at Jackson in December, 1861; proceeded to Bowling Green, Ky., and returning after the fall of Fort Donelson, did gallant service at the battle of Shiloh, where Mr. Boyd, then a private, was struck on the breast my a minie-ball, but saved from serious injury by the interposition of a notebook in his pocket.  He went through the campaign about Corinth during Halleck's siege, took part in Bragg's Kentucky campaign, including the Battle of Perryville, and the battles of Murfreesboro and Chickamauga.     More Info

BOYD, Austin Pollard, Sgt. 14th infantry, Co. I Monroe Co., MS  serving with General Boliver Buckner until February 16, 1862, at which time Fort Donelson, Tennessee, was taken and Mr. Boyd was made a prisoner and carried to Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois.  He was a prisoner eight months and was then exchanged; he at once joined his command and was in active service in the Army of the Tennessee until the close of the war.     More Info

Discharge Documents For A Buffalo Soldier. Two partly-printed documents regarding the discharge of Wiley Boyd of Captain Lewis Johnson's Company A of the 24th Regiment of Infantry, born in Erskine, in the State of Mississippi aged 27 years...Black complexion...by occupation a Laborer...for Five years, who is now discharged by reason of Special Orders. This document measures 12.75x 8.5. The second document measures 11 x 8.5 and is a voucher detailing the balance paid to Fuller upon his discharge, who adds his mark to the signature line. Both are Extremely Fine or better, although Form No. 5 has some varmint damage along one of the folds. (2 items)
