     John Boyd ~ Ellender Sullivan

 Monroe County, Mississippi

My g-g-grandfather was John Boyd.  He first shows up in MS in 1823-this was the year he married Ellender  Sullivan in Monroe Co., MS.  His parents and place of birth are still a mystery.  Ellender was born in Greene Co., TN  17 Jan 1807.  John is reported to have been born in 1801.  John died in 1862.  Ellender died 21 Oct 1861.  They had 6 children:

1. Margret Boyd b 1828                                                                               2. Mandain b 1930                                                                                        3. J.M b 1833                                                                                            4. Addison Harvey (my g-grandfather) b 15 Sept 1835                                    5. The only ones I have been able to track for sure are Addison, and Austin.

Austin volunteered for the Civil War.  He was in the 14th MS infantry, Co I and served under General S.B. Buckner.  He made 1st Sgt.   He was captured in surrender of Fort Donalson, and spent 8 months at Camp Douglas near Chicago.  In a prisoner exchange, he was released and spent the rest of the war in a TN army division.  He married Mary Boyle in Houston MS 19 June 1866.  He started a newspaper in Aberdeen, MS in 1865.  Austin and Mary moved to Paris, TX in 1867.  Austin started The Paris Morning News in 1869  (it is still in publication today).  Austin died in Paris, TX May 15, 1902,  Mary died in Paris, Tx March 2, 1919.
