Daniel B.
Boyd COUNTY TREASURER,
D. B. BOYD, PIONEER, DIES AT 80
Sacramento Bee,
8 June 1914
RENO (Nev.) Daniel B. Boyd, for thirty five years City and County Treasurer and Tax Collector, and one of the oldest pioneers of Eastern California and Nevada, died at his home following an illness of several weeks. He was 80 years old.
Boyd was elected eighteen consecutive times Treasurer of Washoe County, serving as Treasurer and Tax Collector continuously since January 1, 1879. In that office he handled upwards of $10,000,000.
He first crossed Nevada in 1853 and crossed into California, where he engaged in placer mining. He returned to Gold Hill later and went to Washoe, former county seat of Washoe County. He later clerked at a hardware store on Commercial Row after moving to Reno.
Boyd was born at Mercer, PA, November 17, 1834. He came west in '48. He and others walked 600 miles into Sierra County, Cal, from Thousand Springs Valley, head of the Humboldt River, as the last stage in his cross country trip.
