George M. Boyd ~ Cora McCuen

Columbiana County, Ohio

George M. Boyd, well know garage owner of East Liverpool, is a reliable and substantial citizen of Columbiana County.  He was born near Hookstown, Pa., January 22, 1886, and is the son of Thomas H. Boyd and Sarah Jane (Steffler) Boyd.

Thomas H. Boyd, deceased, was a native of Beaver County, Pa., as was his wife.  He was born January 2, 1841, and she was born December 25, 1845.  Mr. Boyd engaged in general farming and stock raising during his life and met with marked success.  He owned a well improved farm of 57 acres and was an extensive breeder of pure bred cattle.  He was a Democrat and a member of the United Presbyterian Church.  He died in 1913 and his wife died in 1917.  Mr. and Mrs. Boyd were the parents of the following children: Frank Boyd, deceased; Jennie Boyd, died in 1900; Alice Boyd, married George Allison, lives at Chester, W. Va.; Mary Boyd, deceased; Nora Boyd, the widow of Benjamin Mackall, lives in East Liverpool; Emma Boyd, married George Silverthorn, lives at Chester, W. Va.; Anna Boyd, married James Paisley, lives at Chester; and George M. Boyd, the subject of this sketch.

George M. Boyd began life as a farmer.  He attended the public schools of Beaver County and after completing his schooling purchased a tract of 60 acres.  He later bought the old homestead, which he farmed until 1916, at which time he removed to East Liverpool and engaged in automobile repair work.  He has conducted the Boyd Repair Shop at 126 Rural Lane since September, 1920, and this ranks among the up-to-date and dependable garages of the city.

In December, 1905, Mr. Boyd was united in marriage with Miss Cora McCuen, who was born in Pleasants County, W. Va., the daughter of Jerry and Lucinda (Williamson) McCuen, both deceased.  To Mr. and Mrs. Boyd four children have been born: Cecil Boyd, born December 22, 1906, engaged in business with his father; Ida Boyd, born October 6, 1908; Eulalie Boyd, born August 21, 1913; and George Edward Boyd, born June 19, 1916.

Politically, Mr. Boyd is a Republican.  He and his family hold membership in the Presbyterian Church.
