George Frank Boyd ~ Mabel Elma Richardson

In the spring of 1899 Mr. Boyd graduated from the law department of the University of West Virginia and a few months later came to Oakdale to accept a place in the office of J. F. Boyd.  He was elected county attorney of Antelope county in 1904, but refused a re-nomination and gave up the practice of law.  Eight years ago he purchased an interest in the Antelope County Bank at this place and his energy and business ability raised the institution from an obscure country bank to one of the strongest and most prominent in this section of the state.  Three years ago he purchased controlling interest in the bank and was the president until last November, when the institution was sold to its present owners.

A few years ago Mr. Boyd became interested in raising thoroughbred stock and
at the time of his death he was the owner of one of the finest herds of Duroc Jersey hogs in the state.  His plans included the establishment of a herd of Shorthorn cattle and he owned several fine specimens of the breed. His real estate interests were extensive and his investments and business transaction were characterized by a shrewdness that marked him as a man of superior judgment.

That "death seeks a shining mark" has been a strangely persistent impression
amongst all nations.  Mr. Boyd was verily a "shining mark," a strong man cut
off in his prime, "unfulfilled, deprived of the residue of his years" and the sudden nature of his taking off sent a thrill of regret, not only through Oakdale, but the entire county, for he had a wide acquaintance and a host of warm friends.

His industry and loyalty to the best interests of his home town and surrounding
country are well known, and his progressiveness contributed much toward making Oakdale what it is today.  Brief funeral services were held at the home Saturday morning, and the remains were taken to his old home at Connellsville, PA for interment.
