Joseph Boyd, painter, Erie, was born near Newry, County Armagh, Ireland, Feb. 10, 1835, son of Robert and Elizabeth (Bittles) Boyd, who were parents of seven children - Samuel Boyd, William Boyd, Joseph Boyd, Maria Boyd, Elizabeth Boyd, John Boyd and Adam Boyd. Our subject emigrated to America, and came to Erie City in 1851, where he has followed his trade of painter ever since.

Mr. Boyd was married, in March, 1864, to Matilda Kennedy, who bore him eight children, seven of whom are now living: William Kennedy Boyd, Robert Boyd, Charles Boyd, Joseph Pressly Boyd, Frank Boyd, Samuel Edward Boyd (deceased), Harry Wilson Boyd and Clara Matilda Boyd.
