Paul L. Boyd, postmaster of Mars, is a veteran of the World War and a prominent young man of Butler County.  He was born at Mars, May 9, 1897, and is the son of Charles B. and Lydia B. (Rhea) Boyd.

Charles B. Boyd, who is successfully engaged in business at Mars, is a native of Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and the son of W. D. Boyd, a veteran of the Civil War.  W. D. Boyd served as postmaster of Mars for a number of years and was a leading citizen of this section.  He died in 1925 at the age of eighty-two years and is buried at Mars.  His son, Charles B. Boyd, succeeded him as postmaster of Mars.  He has been interested in the men's furnishing business here for thirty-five years and is widely known in the community.  His wife was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.  Mr. and Mrs. Boyd had two children: Paul L. Boyd, the subject of this sketch; and William Rhea Boyd, who died in 1921 at the age of seventeen years.

Paul L. Boyd was reared and educated at Mars.  He served throughout the World War and began his business career with the Sampson Motor Company, Pittsburgh.  Later, he went with the Pressed Steel Car Works of Pittsburgh.  For several years he was connected with the Colonial grocery stores at Mars and since 1924 has served as local postmaster.

On June 24, 1924, Mr. Boyd was united in marriage with Miss Marjorie G. Sones, of Butler.  She was a teacher in the public schools of Butler for five years before her marriage.  Mr. and Mrs. Boyd have a daughter, Ruth Rhea Boyd, born May 29, 1926.

Mr. Boyd is a Republican, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and belongs to the Masonic Lodge, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Knights of Pythias, and American Legion.
