WESTMORELAND
COUNTY, PA WILLS
Boyd
Wills in 19th & Early 20th Century Westmoreland Co, PA
This list consists of
information from wills of Boyds who died in the 18th, 19th & early
20th century that are recorded in the Westmoreland County courthouse.
Most were written by residents of Westmoreland County.
My primary purpose was to
identify children mentioned in the wills in an effort to link
Westmoreland County Boyd families together. I estimate that the list has
information on about 90% of the Boyds listed in the courthouse records
for that period. I actually looked at 26 of the 32 wills in the list.
From the record summaries
I obtained the name of the deceased, the year in which the will was
probated (not necessarily the year of death), the township or borough
(or county if not Westmoreland), the docket, volume and page number of
the record, and the name of the personal representative. The personal
representative is often a relative. If more than one name was listed as
personal representative I only recorded the first one. Absence of a
personal representative
may be a transcription omission on my part.
From the wills I obtained
the names of the spouse, children and other relatives as best I could.
Children are list alphabetically as it was not possible to determine
birth order. Sometimes I could not tell if a child name was given as the
first and middle name (e.g. Mary Elizabeth) or a listing of two
different children (e.g. Mary,
Elizabeth).
I examined the records on
Oct 10, 2000. If you have any questions, please contact me by email.

William son of Archibald is mentioned in the will.
William son of Robert is mentioned in the will.
1) A C Boyd (#1) is
listed here and in the records of the First Presbyterian Church in Irwin
with the same death date. The church records identify him as pastor.
2) Unmarried status of Eliza Boyd (#9) is inferred from her listing of
Robert P Boyd as her brother.
3) Link between Elizabeth Boyd (#10) and A W Boyd is explicit in her
will. But the A W Boyd (#2) listed here says his wife is Ruth. On the
other hand, there are additional administrative papers (Docket AD, Vol
4, page 123 that have Etta Boyd, who is identified as a child of
Elizabeth Boyd (#10), as the administrator.
4) I cannot recall how I deduced that Henry C Boyd (#15) is not related
to Henry Boyd Sr (#16). Sorry!
