Obituaries

OBITUARY of Ms, Julia A. (ray) Boyd

Died at Wilmington, Vermont, August 26, 1890 Mrs. Julia A. Boyd, aged 74 years, 8 months and two days.

Mrs. Boyd was a native and old-time resident of Wilmington. She was a daughter of Zelotes and Lydia Ray, and was the last surviving member of a family of thirteen brothers and sisters, all born in Wilmington. She was married in 1835 to Benzil Boyd, a well- remembered and lifelong resident of this town, who died nineteen years ago. Her life until her husband's death was chiefly spent at her birthplace, the old Ray homestead, now occupied by Oscar Ware. Since that time she has made her home with her second daughter, Mrs. Sarah E. Ray in New York.

She was the mother of nine children, six of whom live to mourn her loss. 0f the sons, the youngest two have made themselves homes in the far west—Leslie Boyd in Iowa and Horace Boyd in Montana. The other son, Edward C. Boyd at whose home she ended her days, has nearly always lived in. Wilmington. Her two daughters, Mrs. Helen Newell and Miss Alice, had the sad satisfaction of caring for her during her last illness. She felt the deepest interest in the recent town reunion, and it was with the greatest pleasure she met and greeted her old friends.

Of a most unselfish, loving, and unassuming nature, it can be truly said of her that "none knew her but to love her." She was a most sincere and consistent Christian, and has been a member of the Methodist church of Wilmington these many years. She attended church there for the last time in her life at the Methodist reunion which occurred July 6th. Her funeral, after a short service at her son's house, was held this (Thursday) afternoon August 28th 1890. Her two sons in the west, and her daughter, Mrs. Ray, who is abroad, were unable to be present.
