  James Boyd of  Dies From Pneumonia

After a short illness of pneumonia, Mr. James Boyd died at his home, one mile east of Kernstown, this county, at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, aged 63 years. Mr. Boyd was one of the best-known residents of that neighborhood, and the announcement of his death caused much sorrow and regret, as he was liked and esteemed by all who knew him. Mr. Boyd is survived by his widow, one son, Mr. Walter Boyd, of this county, and three daughters, Mrs. William Hubbard, at home; Mrs. Luther Baker, of Welltown, and Mrs. William Burner, of Stephens City.  He also leaves five brothers and three sisters, as follows:  Messrs. Henry P. Boyd, of West Virginia;  William, Robert, Levi and Charles Boyd, of this county; Mrs. H. F. Kern,  Miss Lizzie Boyd, of the county, and Mrs. Carson Yeakley, of this city. Funeral services will be held at the late residence of the
deceased at 10 o'clock on Sunday morning, and interment will be in Mount
Hebron Cemetery, this city.


Obituary: Luther Columbus Boyd
 

Luther Columbus Boyd, 85, of Willis Road, Meadows of Dan, Virginia, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital, where he was airlifted Sunday following an automobile accident on the Blue Ridge Parkway not far from his home.

He was born Aug 12, 1915, in Patrick County, son of the late Rufus Boyd and the late Emma Wood Boyd. He also was preceded in death by both of his children, son Luther Elvin Boyd and daughter Virginia Rhumell Willett, and two brothers, Alvy Boyd and Guy Boyd.

He had participated in and won numerous flatfoot dance contests throughout his life, including a number at the Patrick County Fair in Stuart and at the former Martinsville/Henry County Fair.

Surviving are his wife, Gracie Irene Boyd of Meadows of Dan; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Myrtle Boyd of Meadows of Dan.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Boyd family cemetery, located on Belcher Mountain Road near the Boyd home. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, VA is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Yeakley Dies At Early Hour; Ill Long Time
Mrs. Alice Yeakley, widow of J. Carson Yeakley, who was a well-known citizen
of the community, died at 1,25 o'clock this morning at the home of her
son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mills on Highland avenue. Her
death followed a protracted illness and was not entirely unexpected. Her
husband died about two years ago.


Mrs. Yeakley is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Richard Mills, of this city,
and Mrs. Luther Beckley of Harrisburg, Pa. She also leaves one sister, Mrs.
Jane A. Kern, of this city, and four brothers, William Boyd of Gerrardstown,
W. Va.; Robert and Levi Boyd, of Frederick county and Charles Boyd, of
Winchester. She leaves 14 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.


The funeral will take place from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mills, No. 436
Highland avenue, Monday morning at 11 o'clock and the services will be
conducted by the Rev. Joseph Duckwall, of the Presbyterian Church. Burial
will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

                         Georgia Boyd McMillian

Obituary of Georgia Bell Boyd McMillian, 1964 - Carroll Co. VA Georgia Belle [Boyd] McMillian, age 73, passed away July 2, 1964 at her home in Winston Salem, North Carolina. She was born May 1, 1891 in Carroll County, Virginia, daughter of Charles O. Boyd and Susan Thomas, and was married to Arnold Carew (Ponce) McMillian (son of Samuel Dudley McMillian and Sarah Ann McMillian), who preceded her in death in August 1957. She grew up in Carroll County and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. After her marriage and move to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where they lived for many years in their beautiful home on Indiana Avenue, she and her husband operated a series of General Stores throughout the city, including locations on North Liberty Street (across from the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County Fairgrounds), and two on Indiana Avenue. She is survived by her foster daughter Jacqueline [Boyd] Butler and two foster grandchildren; two brothers Walter Boyd of the home and Luther Boyd, of Daytona Beach, Florida; and one sister Agnes E. Boyd, of Sanford Florida. She was preceded in death by brothers Edward Boyd, Lee Boyd, and sister Molly Boyd.  Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery on North Main Street in Mt. Airy. Pallbearers will be Charles Boyd, Jimmy Boyd, Billy Boyd, Churchill Thomas, Wade Mendenhall, and J. W. Johnson.
