Will of John Boyd in which he refers to himself as a planter of Lunenburg County.  Names wife Margaret, sons George, William John and James.  Witnesses: David Graham, Patrick Boyd, John Humphrey and Sampson Winifree.  Executors, James Boyd, wife Margaret, Francis Swanson and Thomas Douglas.  Dated July 1748 and probated May 19, 1757.

Will of George Boyd in which he names wife Wilmoth, sons, Walter, Joshua, Irby, George, Edward, and Harrison; daughters Sarah Hobson and Tabitha.  Witnesses: William Powell, E. Ragland, Thomas Douglas and Andrew Boyd.  Exs: Wilmoth Boyd, Micaux Watkins and Joseph Hobson.  Dated May 9, 1779 and recorded June 1781.  Note: George Boyd married Wilmoth Irby 22 Jan 1760.

Wife Lucy.  Mentions articles of agreement made with her dated 20 Aug 1766 before their marriage.  Son James.  Sons Robert, Spencer and William.  Daughter Julia.  Nephew Spencer Boyd and his sister Elizabeth.  The child my wife now goes with.  Exors: William and Henry Todd of King and Queen County.  Wit: John Gardner, Anthony Gardner, Isaac Digges, Thomas Brown.

I Robert Boyd of the County of King and Queen do make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following:  First after paying all my just debts I give to my wife Frances Boyd one third pa__ the negroes that I have received from her fathers estate in fee simple.  2nd in case my wife shall continue my widow it is my will and desire that all my ____ shall be kept together and worked for the support of wife and __ education of my son Robert B. Boyd until he arrives to the age of Twen____ he takes possession of the estate devised him, but should she marry it is _ _ that she shall only receive the negroes above mentioned.  I give to Frances Boyd one negro girl named Alice to her and her heirs forever _ the said girl die she shall continue to be furnished with a maid from my _ _ be clothed and boarded from the proceeds of my estate, in case my __ before my son Robert arrives at the age of twenty one _ give to my Sister Molly Scanes the __ girl named Silvey to her and her heirs.  4th All my land, the balance of my negroes, stock, Household and kitchen furniture _ all _ every kind of property that I may die possessed of I give to my son Robert B. Boyd and his heirs lawfully begotten, but should my son die without such heir it is than my will that the land given him shall go _ my brother William Boyd, and at his death to his son William B. Boyd, the negroes and other property one half to my brother William and his heirs, and the other half to be divided between my sisters Julia Hart and Molly Scanes.  5th  All the property above devised is subjected to paying a reasonable board and clothing for my daughter Frances Boyd.  Lastly I appoint my brother William Boyd executor of this my last will and Testament.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 30th day of August 1820.  Robert Boyd [seal].  Signed Sealed and acknowledged to be his last will and testament in presence of Dudley Diggs, Reuben Ware. 

 

A codicil to this my last will and Testament in case both my children should die before they arrive to the age of Twenty-one of Lawful heir it is my will then that all the negroes that came by my wife shall return to her and her heirs.  Witness my hand and seal this 30th Augt 1820.  Robert Boyd [seal].  Signed Sealed and acknowledged in presence of Dudley Diggs, Reuben Ware.

 

At a court held for King and Queen County at the Courthouse thereof on Monday the 11th day of June 1821.  This lst will and Testament of Robert Boyd deceased with the codicil annexed was offered for proof by William Boyd the Executor therein named and was prov'd by the oaths of Dudley Diggs and Reuben Ware the subscribing witnesses thereto thereupon the same was ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of the said William Boyd who took the oath of an Executor and entered into bond according to law, a certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.  Teste Beo. In the Clerks Office King and Queen County Court   November 1st 1869.  The record of this will being lost by the burning of the Clerk's Office of the County in March 1864 the same is on motion of Samuel G. Friend Christopher John D. Pryor Esqr. to be guardian of my two children Mary Francis and Roberta Byrd Boyd.  Two uncles Beverley D. Roy and Augustus G. D. Roy to have blooded horses.  Wife Mary A.
