   Robert M. Boyd
VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR PASSES WAY

Robert M. Boyd, prominent citizen, business man and soldier of the civil War, died last evening at his home, 1611 College Avenue, Racine, Wisconsin. Few men were better known here than Mr. Boyd, not only in commercial circles but in connection with early railway history.

He was born in Granville, Milwaukee County March 4, 1839 and received his education in that county. More than fifty years ago he came to Racine and was the purchasing agent of the old Western Union railway, now the Southwestern division of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad. For a great many years he held that important position and was considered a man of the highest business ability and the strictest integrity. Retiring from the railway business he engaged in the real estate and insurance business, which he successfully conducted until a short time ago, when he was taken ill.

When the civil war broke out Mr. Boyd answered the call and enlisted on Aug 14, 1862, in Company E, 24th Wisconsin regiment. He served until June 1865, when he was honorably discharged.

He was a member of Gov. Harvey Post. No. 17. He served as commander of the post in 1883 and 1884, and he also held other offices in the organization. He was a member of the Army of Cumberland.

Mr. Boyd was a good citizen, public-spirited and enterprising and was always in favor of any movement intended to advance and build up the commercial and manufacturing interest of the city.

There survive to mourn his death, his widow, two sons, H.C. Boyd of Milwaukee and E. H. Boyd of Michigan and two daughters, Mrs. E.H. Riley of Montana and Miss Maud Boyd of Racine, one sister Mrs. H. Fertiz of Milwaukee and one brother, J.J Boyd of Milwaukee.

The funeral will take place on Tuesday afternoon an two PM from the house. The services at the grave will be conducted by the GAR.
