UHAUL - THE EVIL EMPIRE    (continued Part 2)

                      THE TRUTH ABOUT UHAUL'S INSURANCE

Hi,
I just wanted to say I found your website. I work for Uhaul, I have for over
a year. It's a good job, they pay us alright....anyway, I've seen lots of
anti-Uhaul websites out there and I just wanted you to know I think you have
the best, most (relativly) unbiased site of them all. I appreciate that you
say it's not the Uhaul centers specifically at fault - the truth is that
you're right, most of us in the field are honest, hard working americans -
but the problems arise with the bigwigs in phoenix. i dont like upper
management, theyre greedy and dishonest. but dont forget that the amerco
company is comprised of something like 35 "independant" Uhaul marketing
companies (MCO) spread across america and canada. maybe its just that i work
for a really nice company in my area. we dont get too many complaints (not
to say ive never dealt with an upset customer, on the contrary!), management
in my marketing company is kind and honest, and all my bosses are real down
to earth human beings. perhaps its not like that in other MCOs, but here we
try and do things as honestly as we can - we've all been on the other side
of the counter and know how frusturating it can be - especially at a time as
stressful as moving. anyway i hope you dont condemn the whole company based
on a few bad experiences, though based on what ive read here i dont think i
can entirely blame you... but a lot of these MCOs are independant, and just
because our paychecks come from phoenix doesnt mean we abide by how they run their company or that I like Joe Shoen as a person (most of us dont).

also i dont mind if you post this just please remove my email address, I
wouldn't like to hear back from my boss about this!

Mr. Boyd:

Re: California Class Action Lawsuit Against U-Haul

I have read the postings on your U Haul Boycott page with interest. You may
wish to know that I represent a party that has filed (in July 2002) a class
action in California against U Haul for false and misleading advertising
with regard to their reservation policy. Visitors to your site may contact
me for more information or to share evidence that may be of value to the
class.

Thank you.

Mr. Cohen,

I’m hoping you could give me some information on this class action lawsuit.  I’m seriously contemplating taking legal action over my moving experience this last weekend.

Without going into a lot of detail at this time, my story is similar to what I’ve read others have gone through concerning problems with reservations, right equipment etc.  In addition, the truck’s brakes completely went out twice while moving from Dallas, TX to Minneapolis, MN.  The first time the brakes went out (completely) the truck was hauled to the local uhaul repair center, kept overnight and supposedly repaired.

While traveling the next day the brakes completely failed again on the freeway, in a construction zone.  To avoid an accident, I was forced to dump the truck, fully loaded w/ my vehicle in tow, into the median at 50 mph.  The truck went to the repair shop in Iowa Sunday afternoon and wasn’t fixed until Wed.  I left Sunday for MN in my own vehicle, refusing to get back in the truck.

Uhaul then refused to bring the truck to me after it was repaired the second time, I paid the mech. $500 to bring it to me.

I also have damage to the cargo, which I know is from having to take the truck off the road.  In addition to the expenses I’ve incurred, Uhaul had already charged my credit card for the full amount.

This story has a lot of great detail, that helps build a case, however, I don’t have the time to go into it at the moment, I finished unpacking last night, and I’m catching a plane this afternoon to bring my family up from Dallas over the weekend.

If you could offer any information/advise I’d appreciate it, or if you know a good attorney in Minneapolis that would be interested.
